TikTok Catalog Duplication Instructions
How to duplicate a catalog and assign it to an Angler data set
Overview
Follow the steps below to duplicate an existing TikTok catalog and connect it to the Angler Events pixel. This is required when running A/B tests where each cell needs a separate catalog to prevent duplicate attribution and ensure clean signal separation.
Prerequisites
- Access to TikTok Ads Manager with admin permissions
- An existing catalog already live in TikTok Ads Manager
- Angler Events pixel active and verified (Pixel ID:
D612Q1RC77U3O6ND9M30) - Product feed URL available (same source feed as original catalog)
Step 1 · Navigate to Catalog Manager
- Log in to TikTok Ads Manager.
- In the top navigation, click Assets.
- From the dropdown, select Catalog.
- You will see your existing catalog(s) listed here.
Step 2 · Create a New Catalog
- Click Create in the top right.
- Enter a Catalog Name — use a clear naming convention, e.g.:
- a.
[Brand]_Catalog_Angler(for the Angler/Challenger cell) - b.
[Brand]_Catalog_BAU(for the control cell)
- a.
- Select the Default Currency — this must match the currency of your existing catalog exactly.
- Select the Targeting Location — this must also match your existing catalog.
- Click Create to save.
Currency and targeting location cannot be changed after a catalog is created.Double-check these match your original catalog before proceeding.
Step 3 · Add Products via Data Feed (Mirroring Existing Catalog)
- Inside your new catalog, click Manage.
- Click Products, then Add Products.
- Select Data Feed Schedule (recommended — keeps products in sync automatically).
- Enter the same product feed URL used by your original catalog.
- c. To find the original feed URL: open your existing catalog → Manage → Products → click the existing data source.
- Set the refresh schedule to match the original (e.g. daily).
- Click Save. TikTok will begin importing products from the feed.
- Wait for products to be approved and show Active status before proceeding.
SKU IDs in this catalog will match the original catalog. This is intentional — the catalogs are separate assets, so there is no conflict. However, ensure your pixel events are mapped to the correct catalog to avoid duplicate attribution.
Step 4 · Assign Angler Events Pixel to the New Catalog
This step connects the new catalog to the Angler Events data connection, which is required for the Challenger cell of the A/B test.
- In TikTok Ads Manager, go to Assets → Events.
- Confirm the Angler Events pixel is active:
- d. Pixel ID:
D612Q1RC77U3O6ND9M30
- d. Pixel ID:
- When creating the Challenger campaign ad group, under Data Connection, select Angler Events (not TikTok Pixel for Shopify).
- Under Optimization Event, select Angler New Customer Purchase.
- In the Product Source Details section, select the new Angler catalog you created in Steps 1–3.
Do not switch the pixel on the control cell. The BAU (control) campaign should remain connected to TikTok Pixel for Shopify
1616438708with the original catalog.
Step 5 · Verify Pixel-to-SKU Mapping
Before launching, confirm that pixel events are firing correctly to the right catalog. This prevents duplicate counting.
- Go to Assets → Events → open the Angler Events pixel.
- Use the Test Events tool to verify a purchase event fires with the correct
content_id. - Confirm the
content_idvalue matches a SKU ID in the new Angler catalog — not the original. - If using a server-side integration (CAPI), confirm the
event_source_urlandcontent_idare passing correctly through the Angler Events integration.
Watch for double-counting.If the same purchase event fires to both the Angler pixel and the TikTok Shopify pixel simultaneously, use TikTok's event deduplication (
dedup_key) to prevent double-counting at the platform level.
Step 6 · Assign Catalog to Challenger Campaign
- Go to Campaign → +Create.
- Select Sales as the advertising objective.
- If running as a formal split test, toggle on Create a Split Test.
- In the Ad Group settings for the Challenger cell:
- e. Data Connection: Angler Events (Pixel ID:
D612Q1RC77U3O6ND9M30) - f. Optimization Event: Angler New Customer Purchase
- g. Product Source: select the new Angler catalog
- e. Data Connection: Angler Events (Pixel ID:
- In the Ad Group settings for the BAU (control) cell:
- h. Data Connection: TikTok Pixel for Shopify
1616438708 - i. Optimization Event: Purchase
- j. Product Source: select the original catalog
- h. Data Connection: TikTok Pixel for Shopify
- Keep all other settings identical between cells (audience, budget, placement, attribution window).
